It’s Always Been About One Thing: ATTENTION
Podcast Transcription
Alright, guys. Hope you are having a fantastic day wherever you may be. I want to give you guys a little segment of the video that I did the other day when I was in Mexico City. In Mexico City, I was doing a seminar for a several hundred people over there on the opportunities of the modern era which is something that I obviously love to do all the time. And, there were some things that I’ve realized on it that were pretty impactful. You know, walking around the streets and seeing what the people were doing to try pulling the attention in just made me realize how that translates into the digital era. And, how you have to basically just find a way to capture that attention. In this extract, I’m going to give you some viewpoints on that. And also, if you guys want to watch the whole video, I’ll put the link down below for you guys to be able to watch the video while I was walking on the streets of Mexico and talking to the camera along the way.
But, you know, one of the things that I saw was that this whole game of attention has been around for a long time. The one thing that is quite different is the actual approach to capturing that attention. Like today, instead of just pulling people into a store and having them go in there and check out what you have to offer and selling hardcore like just nonstop selling and offering a particular service or product, instead of doing that we try to romanticize people along the way. And as something that is a new phenomenon this current era, because we have digital footprints that we can follow, we can actually go step by step and follow people around and know how many minutes they’re watching from our video, websites they’re visiting, engagement on the pages, Messenger, messages that they’re sending, we have all that data in there.
So, since we can actually communicate with them so well, then we can actually just make it seem like we’re not selling something and that’s kind of like my number one tip. You’ve got to work hard, you’ve got to learn, you’ve got to know. But, overall, in order for you to get a marketing strategy to work, you’ve got to make it seem like all you care about is their improvement, somebody else’s benefit. And, if you do that in social media then you’re going to capture so much attention. That is going to be very easy for you to eventually monetize it. Why? Because you can follow people every step of the way you can know exactly what’s going on, you can actually follow the customer journey from the first point of contact to the point of contact just before they become a customer and communicate the right messages along the way. There are no more single campaigns that you have to run and try to make it profitable. Now you can run many different campaigns. You can run campaigns to a certain demographic, and then a different campaign to another demographic and then, you know, you don’t have to have the same message anymore. That is a thing of the past.
So, when you look at that, all you’ve got to figure out, my biggest tip, my biggest push that I will give you guys along the way is to basically just figure out how you are going to capture that attention. Are you going to entertain them? Are you going to inspire them? Are you going to educate? If you do one of those, you are going to actually be very successful. If you decide to not do any of them, then, you’re going to fall into a state and condition of being irrelevant in social media because social media is going to be the future. That’s what basically what you’re going to need in order to stand out in the sea of content. Nobody is going to trust anyone unless their feet are planted in social media. Let’s say they have roots that are really well established in this social media world.
So, you have to figure out. If you’re in business, if you’re listening to this, if you want to build a brand or if you have a brand and just want to take it to another level, well, you have to figure out whether you, an employee, somebody you bring in or anyone around yourself, around your business, what can they start doing to capture that attention through inspiration, entertainment, education. In the end, that’s what’s going to help you build a brand that you can eventually hand over to your children and you can keep on surviving without any other things along the way. Just keep on withstanding the pressure of time and you’ll keep on surviving. It’s just like you’re trying to grab this little piece of the digital land just like the wild wild west, people got rich capturing land in the country and a lot of that money is still in the family money. We’re trying to do the same thing.
So, if you want to grab a piece of that digital land, you have to figure that out. So, I’m going to have you guys listen to that audio clip right now. So, I’m walking around the streets of Mexico City with my son. Just showing him a little bit about the culture in Mexico. And, the more that I walk around, the more that I realize that the game of attention has been around for ages and ages. I mean, these guys are heavy marketers in here trying to pull people into their shop nonstop like asking people, offering them stuff like, “Come in, come in, come in. I’ve got the best specials for you, I’ve got the best stuff for you. Come on in.” And they don’t stop. I mean, it’s like a consistent within this incredible mass of people which is like trust me, really, really crowded in here. I mean, it’s like pretty intense but it’s all about attention like noises, music, people screaming all over the place. It just suddenly came to that throughout ages, yesterday I was watching a show on television. I wasn’t really watching it because I was doing a presentation on my computer like 12 o’clock at night, but I had the sound playing on the hotel room and there was this scene with this ice cream truck. And you guys remember that ice cream truck, right? The ones that make noise. Look, people putting attention, people putting attention, nonstop, alright? That’s how you pull attention. Anyway, the ice cream truck, who remembers those trucks? It’s a classical song. That music whenever you hear that around, kids stop thinking about anything. Whatever they’re doing doesn’t matter. It just stops right then and there and all they think about is ice cream. Why? Because it’s attention. And now the kids go to the parents, and the parents like say, “Of course son. Here’s a couple of dollars. Go and buy yourself an ice cream.”
So, if you master the art of attention, then, you can master the art of expansion. It’s as simple as that. In this modern world, we’re just trying to do is the same thing, in the Facebook world, in the Instagram world, in YouTube, in Instagram Television world. We’re trying to master the art of attention because if you guys are listening to me and you’re paying attention and you find what I have to say a value, entertaining or inspirational or motivational or like educating, whatever it is, eventually when I want to sell you guys something I can like whether it is a course, it’s going to help you get to the next level or an event or anything. So, at the end of the day, you just want to master that attention. It’s a little bit of a different game, right? Because we are trying to play the long-term game, people capturing attention for the long game.
Here, all these guys here are trying to capture attention for the now – I want to sell you something now. Not me. I want to sell you something next year or maybe 5 years down the line. Not only that. I want to just basically help a lot of people along the way. The return just comes back naturally. It’s not something that you have to ask for. It literally just comes back. When you work on that, when you focus on just providing value and capturing attention, in the long term it’s just easy to advertise that. So, figure out what strategy, I mean, before you get into business or before you get into social media, before you buy products and try to resell them on Amazon or whatever it is, if you’re already doing that and you’re not selling enough and you have a lot of like dreams of expansion, make sure that you figure out first how you are going to pull that attention in. Because, when you pull it in, now you can grow. You’re not going to be able to sell anything unless you pull that attention in. That’s the name of the game whether it is on Amazon. You want to put yourself towards the top of the ranking, that’s through attention.
And not only that. You want people to start looking for you on Amazon because they saw you somewhere else. They saw you on Facebook, they saw you on Instagram, they saw you on social media and they want to go purchase on the number 1 ecommerce platform in the world which is Amazon, right? So, attention. Figure it out. Don’t go to sleep until you have a little bit more of an idea on how you’re going to capture it. If you don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera, fine. Write. If you don’t like writing, fine. Do a podcast. If you don’t like a podcast, okay fine. Start taking pictures. If you don’t like any of that, you shouldn’t be in business, okay? Or if you can afford it, then you can bring somebody else to work for you and provide that particular weakness in your company because this is a must. If you guys are not doing something about that then you guys are not really relevant in the current world that we live in.
Let me tell you something. This is not the current world, okay? This is not how you make money today. These guys here, all of these guys right here, 99.9% of them are not in the social media internet tsunami world, okay? And, if you really want to take it to the next level we have opportunities. I mean, I was talking to my son, there’s this lady that was carefully placing all her art in a little towel so she could sell it. She’s probably been working so hard to be able to sell this for a dollar. Look, here’s an example of what these guys do. Perfect example right here. You know what I mean? Do you know how long it takes them to produce that? Do you guys realize how lucky we are? I mean, I sell 2,000 units per day in my Amazon stores. This lady, she’s going to go happy to her house, so excited if she sells 5 or 10 of these. How crazy is that? People don’t understand that. I mean, they don’t understand the world we live in. So, master the art of attention. My number 1 tip for you guys today is to figure out how are you going to capture some of it. There’s a lot of it because people, even though these people here are not taking advantage of this modern world, most of them are not. Let me tell you one thing for sure, they do have their attention on these platforms. They do have social media. They do have Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and all these different incredible communication platforms. Alright, guys. That’s my rant of the day.
